Metal Roofing & Standing Seam Roofs in Jacksonville
“Having chosen Shaka Roofing and Construction Services was a great decision for me. Their credibility, good work ethic, open communication, and overall superior service showed at first contact. As to the quality of their work, I am very impressed with the way that the roof looks - it’s just a roof, but I can’t stop looking at it. I’m also impressed with how protective they were of my property and how thoroughly they cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend them.”

Standing Seam Metal Roofs Built for Florida Weather
Sun, salt air, summer downpours and the occasional named storm: Jacksonville asks a lot of a roof. A properly installed standing seam metal roof handles all of it. The panels run from ridge to eave with raised seams that lock together and hide the fasteners, so there are no exposed screw heads to back out or leak over time.
Why Homeowners Choose Metal
- Longevity: A quality metal roof typically outlasts an asphalt shingle roof by decades, which is why it often ends up cheaper per year of service despite the higher upfront price.
- Wind performance: Mechanically seamed panels and concealed clips are made for high-wind coastal zones.
- Heat: Reflective finishes send more of the Florida sun back into the sky instead of into your attic.
- Low maintenance: No granules to shed, no algae streaks to scrub, no tabs to reseal before hurricane season.
- Looks: Clean vertical lines in a wide range of colors, from the classic white on beach homes to charcoal and bronze.
We’ve installed standing seam on homes in Arlington, the Jacksonville Beaches and across St. Johns and Clay counties, plus boat docks and pool cabanas. See them in our project gallery.

Metal vs. Shingle in Jacksonville
Both are good roofs when they’re installed right, and we install both. Here’s how we talk it through at your estimate:
- Upfront cost: Metal costs more to buy and takes more skill and time to install. Shingles win on day one.
- Lifetime cost: Over the life of the house, a metal roof that lasts two to three times as long as shingles often costs less overall.
- Noise: Over a solid roof deck with underlayment, a metal roof is no louder in rain than shingles. The “tin roof” sound comes from open-frame barns, not houses.
- HOA and style: Many Northeast Florida HOAs allow standing seam in approved colors. We’ll help you check before you commit.
- Resale: A new roof of either type helps a sale; a long-life metal roof is a strong selling point near the coast.

How We Install a Metal Roof
- Free inspection and measurements. We measure the roof, check the decking and talk through panel profile and color.
- Written estimate. Panels, underlayment, trim, flashing and the timeline, spelled out.
- Tear-off and deck prep. Old roofing removed, decking repaired where needed, high-temperature underlayment installed.
- Panel installation. Panels cut to length on site, concealed clips, seamed ridge, properly flashed penetrations and eaves.
- Final inspection and cleanup. We walk the roof with you, confirm every seam and flashing, and clean up.
Every metal roof we install is covered by our 10-year workmanship warranty. Panel finish warranties come from the panel manufacturer and are listed on your written estimate.

Metal Roof Options
Panels, Gauges and Finishes: Choosing the Right Metal Roof
- Standing seam vs. exposed fastener: Standing seam panels lock together over concealed clips, so no screws are exposed to the weather. Exposed-fastener (screw-down or 5V) panels cost less but rely on hundreds of rubber washers that age in the sun and need re-tightening. On a house we recommend standing seam; on a barn or shed, screw-down can make sense.
- Gauge: Thicker 24-gauge steel resists denting and oil-canning better than 26-gauge; we tell you which one the quote is for.
- Steel or aluminum: Galvalume-coated steel is the standard inland. Most steel finish warranties exclude homes close to salt water, so at the Beaches and Ponte Vedra we spec aluminum panels, which don’t rust.
- Finish: A PVDF (Kynar 500®-type) paint finish holds its color and gloss for decades in Florida sun; lower-cost polyester finishes chalk and fade sooner. Light and reflective “cool” colors send more heat back into the sky.
- Underlayment: Metal gets hot. We use high-temperature synthetic or self-adhered underlayment rated for it, over a re-nailed, sealed deck.
- Product approval: Every panel system we install carries a Florida Product Approval for the wind loads at your address.

Metal Roof Cost in Jacksonville
What You Are Paying For in a Metal Roof
We don’t publish a price per square because no two Jacksonville roofs are the same. A metal roof costs more than shingles up front, and here is where the money goes:
- Panel system: Mechanically seamed standing seam costs more than snap-lock, which costs more than exposed-fastener panels.
- Metal, gauge and finish: Aluminum over steel, 24 gauge over 26, PVDF over polyester: each step up adds cost and life.
- Roof complexity: Every hip, valley, dormer and chimney means custom-formed trim and hand-finished details. A simple gable roof is far less work in metal than a cut-up roof.
- Tear-off, decking and underlayment: The same code items as any Florida re-roof, plus high-temperature underlayment.
- Labor: Metal takes more skill and more time than shingles. That is the point: it is installed once.
Over the life of the house a metal roof that lasts two to three times as long as shingles often costs less per year. Hearth financing is available; see roof financing.
Metal Roof Repair
Repairing and Maintaining Metal Roofs
A metal roof asks little of you, but not nothing:
- Exposed-fastener roofs: Screws back out and washers crack after years of thermal movement. We re-fasten with oversized screws and new washers, or convert the worst areas to standing seam.
- Penetrations and flashing: Pipe boots, skylight curbs and wall flashing are where metal roofs leak. We use boots and sealants rated for metal and high heat.
- Loose or damaged panels: Wind-lifted panels after a storm, dents from falling limbs and scratches that will rust on steel are all repairable without replacing the roof.
- Cleaning: Rinse pollen and debris off with a garden hose, keep valleys clear and never let dissimilar metals (copper, treated lumber) drain onto the panels.
- Walking on it: Walk in the flat of the panel near a support, never on the seams, and only when it is dry. Better yet, call us.

Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a metal roof cost in Jacksonville?
It depends on the roof’s size and complexity, the panel profile and finish, and the condition of the decking, so we price it on site rather than guess. The free written estimate spells out every line, and financing is available through Hearth.
How long does a standing seam metal roof last?
Decades longer than asphalt shingles when installed correctly on a sound deck. Our 10-year workmanship warranty covers the installation, and the panel manufacturer’s finish warranty is listed on your estimate.
Is a metal roof loud when it rains?
Not on a house. Over a solid deck with underlayment, rain on a metal roof sounds about the same as on shingles.
Can a metal roof be installed over my existing shingles?
Sometimes the code and the structure allow it, but we inspect first. Tearing off lets us check and repair the decking, which is usually the better long-term choice in Florida.
Do you repair metal roofs too?
Yes: loose panels, failed fasteners on older exposed-fastener roofs, flashing and penetration leaks. Start with a free inspection.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. Every job starts with a free, no-pressure roof inspection and a written estimate. If you decide to go another direction, no hard feelings.
Standing seam or screw-down metal roof: which is better?
For a home, standing seam. Its fasteners are concealed under the seams, so there are no exposed screws and washers to age and leak, and it carries higher wind ratings. Screw-down panels cost less and are a fair choice for barns, sheds and workshops.
Will a metal roof rust near the beach?
Galvalume steel can corrode in salt air, and most steel finish warranties exclude homes close to the ocean. At the Beaches and Ponte Vedra we install aluminum standing seam, which doesn’t rust, with stainless or coated fasteners.
Does a metal roof attract lightning?
No. Lightning strikes the tallest object regardless of material. If a metal roof is struck it conducts the energy safely to ground and, unlike wood or asphalt, it doesn’t burn.
What gauge metal roof should I get?
For standing seam on a home, 24-gauge steel or the equivalent aluminum thickness. It resists denting and the visible waviness called oil-canning better than thinner 26-gauge panels. Your estimate states the gauge and finish so you can compare quotes fairly.
Will a metal roof lower my cooling bills?
A light or reflective PVDF finish sends more of the sun’s heat back into the sky than dark shingles do, and homeowners often notice a cooler attic. The size of the saving depends on your attic insulation and ventilation, so we don’t promise a number.
Does a metal roof help with homeowners insurance?
Metal roofs with a Florida Product Approval generally document well on a wind mitigation inspection, which is how Florida insurers apply the discounts required by state law. We provide the product approvals and installation photos; whether and how much your premium changes is up to your insurer.
