What to Expect
Living Through Your Roof Replacement
Most residential shingle replacements take one to two days. Here is what that looks like from inside the house:
- The day before. Move cars out of the driveway, take fragile items off walls and shelves (tear-off vibrates the whole house), and let us know about pets, pool equipment and anything in the attic you don’t want dusty.
- Early start. The crew arrives at first light to beat the heat. Tarps go over landscaping, pool enclosures and AC units before the first shingle comes off.
- Tear-off and deck check. Old roofing comes off, the decking is inspected and any bad sheets are replaced and photographed for you.
- Dry-in. Secondary water barrier and underlayment go on the same day, so the house is watertight overnight even if an afternoon storm rolls in.
- Roofing and details. Starter, shingles or panels, flashing, vents and ridge.
- Cleanup and walk-through. Magnet sweep of the yard and driveway, debris hauled, and a final look at the roof together. The county inspector signs off and your paperwork follows.
You don’t need to be home, but many customers like to be there for the walk-through. Either way you get photos of the finished roof and of anything we found along the way.
